ABOUT OUR HOST: Peter has guided rides across the challenging trails of the European Alps since 2004 with his own horses, as well as exploring the world with local breeds. For Peter, the mountains demand a unique teamwork between horse and rider, where trust is the foundation to safely navigate rugged terrains. His training focuses on building mutual trust, leadership, and security on the trail, as he believes that trail horses are extraordinary partners capable of much more than we might expect. Learn more at www.alpentrekking.com.   10:00 am - 12:00 pm – Presentation: Backcountry Basics and Mindset Shift Ultralight Packing for Extended Wilderness Trips: No pack horse? No support vehicle?


Learn how to manage up to two weeks in the backcountry with only saddlebag and ultralight gear, tested over thousands of miles. Minimalist Philosophy: Approach camping “through-hiker” style, focusing on essentials and safety while minimizing weight.

Safety and Leadership: Peter, a specialist in backcountry communication and leadership, will share techniques for building trust and security with your horse, an essential element of successful equine travel.

Fear Management: Use fear positively to enhance safety and decision-making. Horse & Rider Preparedness: Assess the physical condition of horse and rider for extended trips.

Camp Setup: Hands-on demonstration of campsite setup, including highlining, electric fencing, and efficient outdoor cooking techniques. ~*~this will be recorded live on Zoom & available later on our YouTube channel~*~ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm – Lunch with Q&A Interactive session to discuss individual questions on packing, preparation, and strategies for ultralight camping. Light lunch provided. 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm – Trail Ride to Monument Rock Details: Limited to 8 riders; bring your own horse and tack. We’ll provide space for your horses during other activities. Purpose: Enjoy a scenic, 3-hour trail ride to apply learned principles, offering a real-world trial of your new skills. 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm – Trail Stories and BBQ Enjoy grilled hot dogs and burgers. Gather to share stories from the trail and reflect on the day's learning. For dietary restrictions, attendees are encouraged to bring their own meals.


Adequate parking for large rigs, try to "trailer pool" if possible. Plenty of stall space for horses coming to the fun ride. Trail is rated as 3 peppers for its high elevation, easy surface, and minimal obstacles. Bicycles, dogs, and hikers are present as well as possibly dirt bikes and road vehicles. Overnight camping can be arranged in advance.
